The E.E.T.S. stands as a testament to the sheer ingenuity that arises from creative restrictions. It serves as a living embodiment of Nicolaou’s profound belief in making the absolute most out of every material—a philosophy deeply intertwined with his commitment to sustainability within his design practice. Comprising a harmonious blend of wooden legs and a striking terrazzo lid, the E.E.T.S. emerges as a bold and captivating interplay of opposing forces—soft and hard, organic and man-made. This juxtaposition of elements not only showcases Nicolaou’s ability to transcend conventional design boundaries but also invites viewers to explore the exquisite harmony that can be found within the coexistence of seemingly disparate materials.

Description

Nicolaou has revisited and reimagined two remarkable pieces from his previous ‘A Side (Tables) Project,’ infusing them with vivid colour palettes and daring shapes that draw inspiration from the rich tapestry of Lebanese culture. This venture embodies his enduring dedication to artistic evolution and the exploration of new creative frontiers.

One of the standout pieces in this creative revival is the ‘E.E.T.S.’ (Elephant Eats Toilet Seat), an intriguing offspring of the ‘D.E.T.S.’ (Dinosaur Eats Toilet Seat), originally conceived during Nicolaou’s ‘A Side (Tables) Project.’ The inception of the D.E.T.S. design was marked by an ingenious use of leftover materials from the Slotted series of side tables, which had already redefined flatpack furniture by embracing the art of craftsmanship. However, the evolution of the D.E.T.S. into the E.E.T.S. is a tale of technical triumph. Nicolaou’s unwavering commitment to perfection led to the creation of numerous prototypes, each meticulously refined to arrive at the simplest and most elegant solution.

In the hands of Thalis Nicolaou, the E.E.T.S. and its companion pieces from BEIT are more than just furniture—they are masterpieces that celebrate the fusion of artistry and functionality, a testament to the boundless creative spirit that thrives within the world of design. These pieces invite us to reimagine our living spaces, transforming them into canvases where culture, innovation, and sustainability converge in perfect harmony.
